WALKING WITH THE WAODANI — PART 3 — POISON FISHING

Russell poison fishing

(This is part 3 – poison fishing – in our Homeschooler Adventure Walking with the Waodani series. Click here to start the series at the beginning.)

FIRST CAME SPEAR FISHING

In our previous Homeschooler Adventurer post, Russell Winter told the story of spear fishing in the Amazon River. The post also mentioned how, during his seven-week adventure in Ecuador, a new friend had taken him spear fishing on the Salinas coast. See the lovely fish he caught there? Russell had another interesting fishing-related experience in Ecuador. After the rest of the members of the WAO Vision Trip returned home from the jungle, Russell and Gary stayed and visited with their new Waodani friends. One of those friends invited Russell to join his family on a Waodani-style Sunday outing.

THEN CAME POISON FISHING

As Russell explains in the video below, back home in Illinois, his family typically spends Sunday afternoons engaged in activities like playing frisbee together or watching a movie. However, Waodani families spend their Sunday afternoons just a bit differently…. Have you heard of poison fishing? If not, you can watch Russell explain it in the clip below.

Please pardon the low resolution of the videos in this series. (We never intended to publish them.) We recorded our interview with Russell for reference purposes only – and planned to write a blog post series. However, we later realized that you would probably enjoy seeing him tell his stories rather than reading about them. Russell’s a great storyteller!

WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL ACTIVITY YOUR FAMILY HAS DONE TOGETHER?
