Why study philosophy?

Philosophy impacts us in unexpected ways…

Most of us underestimate the relevance of philosophy. But whether we realize it or not, philosophers’ ideas have a profound impact on our daily lives.

In fact, philosophers are the world’s idea men—and their ideas are the real movers and shakers of history.

Today, there is a form of philosophy that has effectively undercut freedom and dignity within our culture. And that philosophy creeps into our lives under our radar, without us even detecting it.

Who is writing the script of your life?

Writer Nancy Pearcey asks a profound question:

Who’s writing the script of your life? Most people are not reading philosophy books; they’re picking up ideas about life from the books they read, the movies they watch, art, literature, and other cultural forms. That’s where we are most likely to pick up…ideas—often without realizing it.

We have homeschooled our children from the beginning and have studied many subjects, from world history to robotics. For several years, we have engaged in competitive speech and debate tournaments.

When we began to understand the power of ideas and the role of philosophers, we recognized the importance of sharing our discoveries. Philosophy became the subject of our speech communications work.

It’s time to demystify the study of philosophy!

Many people feel intimidated or even bored by the mere thought of studying philosophy. But it is time we recognize how critical it is that we become aware of its profound influence, teach our students, and train them to be effective communicators so they can share with others what they learn.

And you can do so in surprisingly fun and creative ways. Check out a few of our favorite philosophy activities for students for inspiration.

We also have a list of 240 philosophical questions to get you started.

Because we believe philosophy plays such a key role in shaping our society, we have invested and continue to invest the best of our time and energy into creating a curriculum that will demystify this essential subject.

We hope you will join us on this exciting and profound Philosophy Adventure.
